Who will reach the Europa League final?

Tuesday, 27 September 2011

This season’s Europa League has so far been an exciting affair – although the best is yet to come. With 48 teams remaining in the competition, there is still a long way to go to see who will be crowned the UEFA Europa League champions of the 2011/12 season.

In this particular article I will give the 2 teams I feel have the greatest chance to get to this year’s Europa League final. The first, and the highest skilled team, has to be the Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur. The Europa League betting suggests they should do well.

In recent times Spurs have become a real figurehead in the Premiership, and European football alike. The north London club have won the prestigious Europa League title on 2 separate occasions – once in 1972, and again in 1984. Harry Redknapp – Tottenham’s current manager – has built a highly impressive team. Key players include the likes of: Croatian international and playmaker Luka Modric, Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart, and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor.

Of the key players mentioned, Adebayor is going to be crucial in any success Tottenham may have. So far this season, the powerful centre forward has claimed 3 goals in 3 appearances, and if he continues his good run of form, I don’t see why he couldn’t hit at least the 20-goal mark come the end of the season. Those waiting for the final may want to check out some stars and strikes first.

The other team that I feel will get to the final is French outfit Paris Saint-Germain. The side have recently been taken over by the Qatar Investment Authority; which is a multi-billion dollar company. Current manager – Antoine Kombouare – has acquired the signatures of some interesting players including Javier Pastore, Mohamed Sissoko, and Jeremy Menez. Paris Saint-Germain have won the Europa League title on one occasion back in 1996, and got to the final in the following season. On a final note, between the two previously mentioned teams, I anticipate Tottenham scraping a 2-1 victory against the rising French club.
