Who Will Be Relegated in the 2011/12 Premier League Season?

Wednesday, 20 July 2011

The forthcoming Premier League season is going to be one of the toughest yet for all teams involved. The last campaign saw a tough battle throughout in the lower half of the table with constant positional changes. Even the last game of the season was pinnacle in terms of which clubs stayed up, and which ones were relegated to the Championship.

Towards the latter part of the season it became apparent that West Ham were going to be a Championship club come the 2011/12 season. It was a real shame considering the scope of the club. The Championship betting suggests they should bounce back, but things are never easy.

The other two teams relegated in the last Premier League campaign comprised of Blackpool and Birmingham. Blackpool’s core reason for going down would have to be the lack of funds, and Birmingham’s reason was most certainly the lack of positive management from the previous manager, Alex McLeish.

Norwich shocked us all last year by outperforming all but one team in the Championship last season. But due to a lack of movement in the transfer window, it’s easy to see Norwich floundering and enduring a poor run-of-form all throughout the up-and-coming season. It’s up to Paul Lambert – the Norwich manager, to prove the majority wrong and help Norwich to survive in the Premier League but that doesn’t seem likely.

Swansea’s current lack of input in the transfer market will weigh heavily on their positioning come the end of the 2011/12 Premier League season. Manager Brendan Rodgers will have to up his game by keeping his most prolific players, and also bring some new talent to the Liberty Stadium if he wants to remain in the Premier League with The Swans. Right now, that looks like an impossible task and the Premier League odds reflect this.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were in the firing line for relegation all throughout last season. If it wasn’t for their impressive run of form during the last few games of the season then they would have almost certainly been relegated. Mick McCarthy will have to sign more players giving increased strength to his shaky back four if he wants to repeat that feat. Rodger Johnson – the ex-Birmingham defender, is a recent £7 million acquisition. This suggests that the club is attempting to move into the right direction but right now they just don’t look strong enough to survive.
