While the big shots at Meade are preparing for a corporate retreat, Betty is reveling in the fact that she gets to give final approval to the latest issue of Mode in the absence of Daniel and Wilhemina. This simple tasks turns into a nightmare. More after the jump.

Betty convinces Daniel to let her give final approval to the Mode magazine since it won’t be back from the printers until after he leaves for the retreat. Daniel agrees, which pleases Betty to no end.

Wilhemina is not looking forward to the retreat. She is looking forward to hunting and killing something. (ha! very funny to see Willie with a rifle and I’ve never seen such a stylist rifle bag!)

Everyone arrives at the lodge for the retreat and Connor is in charge. He is giving his speech about what the retreat is all about. Willie is busy texting with Claire keeping an eye on her. Claire chimes in to suggest that Connor confiscate all phones and PDAs to keep everyone ‘unplugged’ and focused. Connor likes the idea and Willie looks even more annoyed.

On the retreat grounds, Daniel is working when literally a woman drops out of a tree. She has hurt her ankle and Daniel helps her walk. This woman is funny, intelligent, and attractive but not supermodel-who-Daniel-is-usually-interested-in attractive. You can tell immediately that Daniel enjoys talking with her.

Wilhemina is in the woods with her gun and ready to shoot something when she realizes it is Connor with his gun aimed at her. They talk for a few minutes when Connor sees Daniel and Molly - the woman who fell from the tree who happens to be his fiancee. Connor comes to her aid since she is limping. Willie is thrilled to see that Connor’s fiancee is so plain as she had expected her to be a supermodel in her 20s. He sweeps her off her feet to carry her back to the lodge, leaving Daniel and Wilhemina standing there slightly bewildered.

After taking her picture with the issue of Mode, Betty gives the OK for the issue featuring a tornado-inspired cover to be shipped out. Later, she hears the news that Kansas has been hit hard by - what else- a tornado. Knowing the cover is now in bad taste, Betty tries to stop the issue from going out but the warehouse manager will not take her word for it. He needs to hear from either Daniel or Wilhemina within four hours.

Betty can’t get a hold of Daniel through his cell phone and decides to take the bus to the lodge. Marc overhears her plans and decides that she can’t stop the issue from going out by herself as he wants in on the credit. He tells her that Cliff is out of town, so they can take his car. Amanda joins in on the road trip.

The three set out for the lodge. Betty is annoyed at how slow Marc is driving. Their bickering leads to Marc wrecking the car. Betty begins to hike back to the store they recently passed. The man doesn’t have a license so therefore can’t drive her. However, Betty is inspired by a boy’s paper airplane to hire a skywriter to send Daniel a message. Daniel gets it and then calls Betty.

Daniel and Wilhemina are talking about the situation when Willie convinces Daniel not to stop the issue from going out as it could be a good PR stunt.

The issue goes out and the cover is lambasted in the media. And Betty is set up to take the blame, earning the nickname “Tornado Girl.” Daniel feels bad about what is happening to Betty but Willie tells him they are enjoying through-the-roof sales and Betty will bounce back. Later Daniel tries to comfort Betty about the situation where she reveals that all she has is her reputation and this won’t be easy for her to overcome. Daniel feels that the charade has gone on for long enough and confesses in front of the cameras. He apologizes to Betty for the whole thing.

Meanwhile, Hilda’s business permit is denied. She then opens up her shop underground, much to the display of Ignacio. Ignacio tells her and Betty that they are both way too strong not to go for their dreams and just to take no for an answer. Hilda and Betty pay a visit to Councilman Rodriguez, who tells her he can’t help her. Betty tells him that this shop is the best thing that has happened to her sister in a while and then leaves. Councilman Rodriguez shows up at the Suarez residence with a proposal for Hilda. If she sells something like candles that makes up 30 percent of her business, then she can have her salon. Hilda is happy and offers to cut the councilman’s hair once the shop is back in business. He says it wouldn’t be right for him to get a free haircut when Hilda tells him she was planning to charge! In that case, the councilman says that he will be back.

The show ends Daniel talking to Molly and her telling him about her dinner plans with Connor since it is their anniversary. Willie overhears this conversation and then tells Connor that they must work late on some issues. Connor cancels his plans with an upset Molly. Wilhemina looks very pleased.
